![]() Recently, a certain weariness has been detected among young users as far as adopting Facebook is concerned, which is the opposite trend observed about services as WhatsApp. However, increasing the informal, anywhere-anytime learning supported by mobile learning must be tempered with guidelines for students regarding faculty contact hours and response times to allay faculty fears and encourage greater student autonomy. It is argued that applications such as WhatsApp should be leveraged to encourage autonomous and peer learning, repositioning instructors as facilitators, and to develop learning communities. Student and faculty attitudes towards WhatsApp were positive although some faculty members expressed reservations towards its use. Thematic analysis also identified the affordances and affective outcomes of using WhatsApp. This is achieved through teacher-directed learning, peer learning, and autonomous learning instructional strategies. Thematic analysis of focus group interviews indicated that WhatsApp is used in EFL instruction for information exchange, language learning support, and language practice. This qualitative study investigates the use of WhatsApp, one popular messaging application, in teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL) through examining the attitudes of Preparatory Year students and faculty members at a university in the central-north of Saudi Arabia. While many quasi-experimental studies confirm efficacy and positive student attitudes towards these types of tools, little is known about existing teaching practices that utilize messaging tools in tertiary contexts, or the attitudes of students or instructors towards them. Messaging tools such as SMS are effective tools for foreign language learning. However, this study suggests that this, WhatsApp is a blessing if these are used for practical academic purposes. However, this App is getting support and encouragement among the peers for reading motivation. The teachers of English also do not encourage them to use this device in fear of distraction of their teaching and learning process in the reading classes. ![]() The student's desire to use but due to the fear of punishment through imposing the fine by the college authorities in the campus, this device is not so effective. However, the results of open-ended question have indicated that still this WhatsApp is not getting encouragement and support by the parents and teachers to use among the students. The findings of the survey have pointed out that the use of WhatsApp is motivating the L2 (English) reading among the students. ![]() A questionnaire investigation has been developed and formulated by the researcher himself and distributed to a sample of 30. Through the conduct of Quantitative approach, the researcher has conducted this study to investigate the reading motivation of English as a Second Language (ESL) among 30 Graduate Students of Arts Group of Government College Township, Lahore (Pakistan). Las conclusiones apuntan la necesidad de reconsiderar su uso en las escuelas, debiendo reformular la utilización de los mismos para favorecer la comunicación familia y escuela. Los resultados indican que las redes sociales y mensajería instantánea son pilares fundamentales en la vida social de nuestro alumnado por lo que es conveniente trabajar los diferentes usos y funciones de las mismas. Se aplicó a 98 docentes seleccionados mediante un muestreo no probabilístico por conveniencia. Se diseñó un cuestionario ad hoc formado por 30 ítems basados en tres dimensiones referidas al contenido curricular, recurso educativo y relación con las familias, valorados con una escala gradual del 1 al 5. Se trata de un estudio cuantitativo del tipo expost-facto descriptivo. El objetivo de esta investigación es determinar la percepción que tienen los docentes sobre el uso de WhatsApp como recurso educativo en el desarrollo del currículo y como vía de comunicación entre centro y familia en la etapa de Educación Primaria y analizar sus opiniones en función de diferentes variables sociodemográficas. Las redes sociales suscitan enorme interés actualmente, dado que favorecen el desarrollo de nuevas dinámicas en las relaciones sociales a todas las escalas y también en los centros educativos.
